New Homeowners
As you purchase your new homeowners insurance policy, make note of the following. You are required to purchase a HO-3 homeowners policy; a HO-5 policy may also be available and acceptable, as long as it includes everything in a standard HO-3 policy. These policy types covers the structure of the building in addition to its interior contents. If you have a mortgage, you likely already have this level of coverage. HO-6 Condo and HO-4 renter policies are insufficient as they only cover the interior of your unit or its contents and do not cover walls out. Your insurance agent may offer you one of these policies because they are cheaper - make sure you verify the policy type you are buying meets the minimum requirements. WLHA provides no insurance coverage for your home.
You are required to provide evidence of your current insurance to the Association and advised to list the Association as an additional interest party on your policy. Contact your agent for instructions. When you do this, your insurance company will typically provide us notice and details of renewals, which conveniently meets your obligation to provide evidence of your policy to the Association. Failure to maintain insurance coverage and\or provide evidence of such coverage is a violation of Association rules and is closely tracked.
If your insurance company does not automatically send a copy of your homeowner’s insurance policy to us, you will need to do so yourself. Send it to us here:
